Advertisements on bicycles

Notice the yellow cover stretched over the seat. Except for keeping your seat dry/intact this cover is also an advertisement.
Don't know if this is typically Dutch but I haven't seen this type of advertising anywhere else. (but then again, I haven't been in any other country where cycling is as popular as it is in the Netherlands)

Flip-flops in fall

Date: 28 September, 08:30 AM
Place: Utrecht
Weather conditions: Around 12-14 degrees Celsius.
Personal conditions: I feel cold. I am wearing a jacket and a scarf. I do not seem to be the only one.

Observation: Noticed several people wearing flip-flops. (shock and awe!!!)
YES, the kind of footwear you 'normally' see in the summer on the beach!
What is more: people are cycling with it.
And what is even more: they seem to be going to work/school with it.

My personal opinions about the appropriateness of flip-flops at schools, universities and the like aside, I wonder, is this an attempt to keep the 'vacation spirit' alive? Or are they simply not cold?...

Beware of the bumps

Caution! You are walking on the unique historical wharfs of Utrecht. Roots of the old trees have made the path uneven in places.
The City Council would like to protect the character of this monumental area.
Please be careful of the bumps.
